Karuna Vijayendra (Ph D) is one of India’s youngest recognized dance historians, acclaimed for her pioneering research in ancient Indian dances, temple traditions, and performance heritage. With over 25 years of experience in dance research and 30+ published research works, she has played a significant role in revisualizing forgotten dance traditions such as Kumbha Nritya, Mahaanata, Mandala Nritya, Perani Paddhati, Kalaasa and the Vijayanagara time dance traditions. She was the domain expert and technical editor for the landmark publication Neo Desi Karanas: A Sequential Link. Her research-based production Vichitra Chitra Nartana a forgotten temple dance tradition from Hoysala dynasty And National Award-winning documentary based on her Ph.D. thesis have earned wide recognition for preserving and revitalizing India’s artistic and cultural legacy.

She served for more than seven years as Research Fellow and Project Associate at the prestigious Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, an accomplished educator for several universities and Ph.D. guide, – she currently serves as Dean of Yoga and Humanities at SVYASA deemed to be University, India, and Professor & Head of Bharatanatyam at the Aria University, California, USA.
