Overview

Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) refer to the vast and diverse body of traditional knowledge developed and practiced in India over thousands of years. Rooted in deep philosophical, spiritual, and scientific traditions, IKS encompasses disciplines such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Mathematics, Astronomy, Language and Grammar (Vyakarana), Arts, Music, Dance, Architecture, Agriculture, and Environmental Science.

This course explores the rich and diverse Indian Knowledge Systems, examining their philosophical, scientific, and cultural foundations. It aims to connect ancient wisdom with modern disciplines to foster holistic understanding and practical relevance.

Faculty Spotlight

Prof. Rani Sadasiva Murthy

Adjunct Professor

Prof. Rani Sadasiva Murthy is the Vice Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara Vedic University, Tirupati. A multidisciplinary scholar, he holds postgraduate degrees in Sanskrit, English, Philosophy, Advaita Vedanta, Jyotisha, and Management, along with a Ph.D. in Sanskrit.

He has guided 27 Ph.D. scholars, authored over 55 books, edited 12 volumes, and published 80+ research articles. He has served in key roles such as Dean of Academic Affairs, Head of Sahitya Department, and Director of Cultural Affairs at NSU, Tirupati.

Prof. Murthy has led several national research projects, created audio-visual archives of rare stotras, and directed a Sanskrit film, Hidimba-Bhimasenam. A prolific speaker and SVBC commentator, he has delivered discourses in India and abroad on Indian Knowledge Systems.

He is a recipient of numerous honors including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award (2016) and Prajna Bhaskara (2010).
