Certificate in Carnatic Music
The main objective of the Certificate Program is to initiate students into the sublime art form – Indian Carnatic music. This program is designed to cover the fundamentals of music both in theoretical and practical ways, that creates and develops love and interest in Carnatic music.
This short-term program introduces students to the basics of Carnatic vocal music, focusing on fundamental techniques and core concepts. Ideal for beginners, it builds a strong musical foundation under expert guidance.
- Basic Vocal Exercises – Learn sarali varisai, janta varisai, and simple swara patterns.
- Introduction to Ragas & Talas – Understand essential melodic and rhythmic structures.
- Beginner-Level Compositions – Practice geethams and simple kritis.
- Experienced Faculty – Receive step-by-step guidance from trained musicians.

Requirements
Duration: 2 semesters
Required Courses: Total of 3 Core mandatory Courses
Required Units: 9 credit units
This program does not require an internship or externship.
General Admission Requirements
- A high school or GED is required.
- Practical music training of at least 3 years.
- Ability to sing -six gῑtᾱms, three Ādi tᾱḷa varῃᾱs and four kirtanas.

A Student enrolled in this Program could be evaluated using the following methods/metrics (Assessment could be a combination of a written and/or a practical performance demonstration) depending on the Course
- Quiz : Two submissions during the Semester.
- Assignment : Two submissions during the Semester.
- Final Exam : End of the Semester.
Students will be awarded a Certificate in Carnatic Music, on their successful completion of all the required courses, with an overall combined GPA of 2.0 or higher, based on the evaluation weightages across the various methods/metrics.
