Diploma in Bharatanatyam Dance​

Course Objective
The Diploma program in Bharatanatyam will focus on both the practical and the theoretical aspects of the dance form. The students will have a deep understanding of origin, history and the modern day practice of this Classical Dance form
Bharatanatyam is one of India’s oldest and most revered classical dance forms, originating from Tamil Nadu in South India. It is deeply rooted in Hindu religious themes and was traditionally performed in temples as a form of devotion. Over time, it has evolved into a sophisticated stage art that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.Â
- Intensive practical sessions led by renowned gurus in Bharatanatyam.
- In-depth study of dance literature, cultural context, and evolution of the art form.
- Emphasis on posture, grace, and inner awareness through traditional practice.

Requirements
Duration: One year (spread over 2 semesters)
Required Units: 15 credit units
Required Courses: Total of 5 courses (4 core mandatory and 1 elective)
Admission Prerequisites
- A high school or GED is required
- Practical dance training of at least 2 years

- DBN 301:Â History, Origin and development of Sadir to Bharatanatyam – 3 credit units.
- DBN 302: Nayaka and Nayika – A detailed study – 3 credit units
- DBN 303:Â Practicals – Few items of the margam – 3 credit units
- DBN 304: Bhakthi movement and it’s influence on Bharatanatyam – 3 credit units
DBN 401:Â Folk dance forms of Tamilnadu – 3 credit units
1. DBN 301: History, Origin and development of Sadir to Bharatanatyam – 3 credit units.
2. DBN 302: Nayaka and Nayika – A detailed study – 3 credit units
3. DBN 303: Practical- Few items of the Margam – 3 credit units
4. DBN 304: Bhakti movement and its influence on Bharatanatyam – 3 credit units
5. DBN 401: Folk dance forms of Tamilnadu – 3 credit units
A Student enrolled in this Program could be evaluated using the following methods/metrics (Assessment could be a combination of a written and/or a practical performance demonstration) depending on the Course :
• Quiz : Two submissions during the Semester.
• Assignment : Two submissions during the Semester.
• Midterm Exam : During the mid-Semester Week.
• Final Exam : End of the Semester.
Students will be awarded a Diploma in Bharatanatyam, on their successful completion of all the required courses, with an overall combined GPA of 2.0 or higher, based on the evaluation weightage across the various methods/metrics.

Estimated Program Costs: $6,000.00 including Tuition ($5,400.00), Application Fee, Books, Registration Fees, etc.
