Masters in Hindustani Music Objective
Master of Arts in Hindustani Music will provide a comprehensive and incremental approach to the theoretical language of music, supported by finer nuance to practical performance.
Theoretical musical knowledge enhances and supports the student’s practical studies. At the end of this program students will be well equipped in all aspects that are important in the study of Hindustani music to take on higher educational and creative opportunities.
The M.A. in Hindustani Music at Aria University is a two-year postgraduate program designed for students seeking advanced knowledge and professional training in vocal or instrumental Hindustani classical music. The program blends traditional guru-shishya parampara (teacher-student lineage) with modern pedagogy, enabling students to refine their technique, engage in research, and explore performance, composition, and musicology. With masterclasses by eminent artists, global collaborations, and performance-based learning, students graduate prepared for careers as performers, educators, and scholars.

Requirements
Duration: Two years (spread over 4 semesters)
Required Courses: Total of 3 courses (2 core mandatory and 1 elective)
Required Units: 30 credit units
General Admission Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree from an approved or accredited institution is required.
- Five years of prior experience in Hindustani Music.
- Every applicant will be assessed by the Faculty for admission.

A Student enrolled in this Program could be evaluated using the following methods/metrics (Assessment could be a combination of a written and/or a practical performance demonstration) depending on the Course :
- Online Participation : Two Discussion submissions during the Semester.
- Assignment : Two submissions during the Semester.
- Midterm Exam : During the mid-Semester Week.
- Final Exam : End of the Semester.
- Final Thesis : Final Thesis submission at the end of the Semester.
- Oral Defense & Practical Presentation : Present & defend the Thesis at the end of the Semester.
Students will be awarded Master of Arts Degree in Hindustani Music, on their successful completion of all the required courses, with an overall combined GPA of 3.0 or higher, based on the evaluation weightage across the various methods/metrics.
