Master of Arts in Telugu Objective
This program is aimed at providing the student with a comprehensive understanding of Telugu language and literature. The varied courses are aimed at offering expertise to the student in different periods and genres of Telugu literature. It contains some of the finest texts in each genre thereby providing a deep understanding of each genre. It also provides the necessary critical tools with which the student gauges the prominence and excellence in each of these texts. The program also provides insights into the cultural and historical evolution of the period between 11th to 20th century vis a vis the literary texts of those ages.
Outcomes:
Upon the completion of the program, the student will,
- Be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the features of the key genres of Telugu literature, such as Purana, Kavya, Prabandha, Novel, Short Story, Criticism, Performing Arts, and Folklore from the classical to the modern periods.
- Be able to apply literary criteria such as Rasa, Dhwani, Narrative Techniques, Imagery, poetic diction, Dramatic theories in the making of a good Telugu poem/novel/drama.
- Be able to analyze, evaluate, and interpret authentic texts and other cultural products in clearly organized and coherent presentations in speech and writing in ways that reflect informed understanding of the relevant contextual factors, including socio-historical influences and cultural traditions, perspectives, and behavioral patterns.
- Be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms the ideas emerging out of the study.
- Be able to demonstrate research skills at Master’s level by writing an original MA Thesis.
Requirements
Duration: Two years (2 semesters in each year)
Required Units: (30 credit units)
Required Courses: Total of 10 courses (7 core- mandatory and 3 elective)
General Admission Requirements
- B.A. with Telugu as language from any Indian university.
- Diploma in Telugu from Aria University with any bachelor degree.
- B.A. with Sanskrit or M.A. with Sanskrit (with Telugu as mother tongue)
- Candidate with any bachelor degree may be selected on the basis of performance in the Entrance Test.
Every applicant will be assessed by the Faculty for admission.

A Student enrolled in this Program could be evaluated using the following methods/metrics (Assessment could be a combination of a written and/or a practical performance demonstration) depending on the Course :
- Online Participation : Two Discussion submissions during the Semester.
- Assignment : Two submissions during the Semester.
- Midterm Exam : During the mid-Semester Week.
- Final Exam : End of the Semester.
- Final Thesis : Final Thesis submission at the end of the Semester.
- Oral Defense & Practical Presentation : Present & defend the Thesis at the end of the Semester.
Students will be awarded Master of Arts Degree in Telugu, on their successful completion of all the required courses, with an overall combined GPA of 3.0 or higher based on the evaluation weightage across the various methods/metrics.
