Certificate in Telugu Language Objective
Telugu is a language spoken by close to 1,000,000,00 people in India of whom about 60% live in the peninsular India in the two states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. According to the 2012-2016 American Community Survey by US Census Bureau, data released from the last five years estimates that 3,021,695 people over the age of five speak Telugu at home in the United States of America. Telugus have a history of over 2500 years and literature for over 1300 years. Known as the ‘Italian of The East’, it has a vast variety of literature including prose, poetry, epics, mythology, classical literature, medieval literature and modern literature.
The student learning objectives of the Telugu Certificate and Diploma courses of the Aria University closely align with the Foreign Language Standards developed by the American Council of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). The 5 language learning goals (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons and Communities) as outlined by ACTFL are at the core of the program’s teaching philosophy. At each level of language acquisition and cultural proficiency training all 5 language-learning goals are integrated into the Telugu courses.
Certificate Program is designed to familiarize students with various aspects of Telugu literature, i.e. Prose, Poetry, Grammar, Prosody and different genres of poetry. The Program helps students understand the evolution of Telugu literature from the time of Trinity to modern era. The Program establishes firm footing in elements of prosody and poetics.

Requirements
Duration: One year (spread over 2 semesters)
Required Courses: Total of 3 courses (2 core mandatory and 1 elective)
Required Units: 9 credit units
This program does not require internship or externship. The educational programs offered does not lead to a profession, occupation, trade, or career field requiring licensure in this state.
General Admission Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- A score of 75% or above in the Assessment Examination for Certificate Course conducted by Aria University.

- CTL 101: Introduction to Classical Poetry, Prosody and Grammar – 3 credit units.
- CTL 102: Introduction to Kavyas – Selections from 3 Texts – 3 credit units
- CTL 201: Introduction to Satakam: Selections from 3 types of satakas – devotional, didactic and moral – 3 credit units
- CTL 101 – Introduction to Classical Poetry, Prosody and Grammar
- CTL 201 – Introduction to Satakam: Selections from 3 types of satakas – devotional, didactic and moral
- CTL 102 – Introduction to Kavyas – Selections from 3 Texts
A Student enrolled in this Program could be evaluated using the following methods/metrics (Assessment could be a combination of a written and/or a practical performance demonstration) depending on the Course :
- Quiz : Two submissions during the Semester.
- Assignment : Two submissions during the Semester.
- Final Exam : End of the Semester.
Students will be awarded a Certificate in Telugu, on their successful completion of all the required courses, with an overall combined GPA of 2.0 or higher, based on the evaluation weightage across the various methods/metrics.
Tuition Fees
$3,000.00 including Tuition ($2,700.00), Application Fee, Books, Registration Fees, etc.
