Master of Arts in Kuchipudi Dance
One Tradition. Countless Voices. Enduring Grace.
Objective
The Master’s Program examines Kuchipudi from a universal perspective. Critical analysis is at the core of this learning. Alongside Kuchipudi, other modern classical dance forms of India are studied from socio-political and historical perspectives, as well as from aesthetic and practical perspectives. The program encompasses the composers and their styles, texts that aid documentation, techniques and mindsets involved in Kuchipudi, distinctive music and rhythmic patterns, various dimensions of abhinaya (expressional interpretations), research methodology, Master’s thesis, and choreography. The choreography allows students to convey the essence of the knowledge they acquire throughout the program. This comprehensive approach prepares students to become independent dancers, equipped with the tools to create with reverence and understanding.
