Overview

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of playwriting, focusing on character development, dialogue, and dramatic structure. Students will explore creative storytelling through scene writing and theatrical expression. They will analyze plays, write original scripts, and participate in peer feedback sessions. The course emphasizes writing for performance and understanding the collaborative nature of theatre. By the end, students will develop and refine their own short play or dramatic scenes.

Week - 1

Meaning of Art, Performing and other arts.

Week - 2

Information about basic swaras, saptak and basic talas. Learning Basic Swaras, different types of Laya and talas One Saraswati Vandana

Week - 3

Origin of Music, different stories related to the origin of music Evolution of music from Folk Music Learning any one folk form of music.

Week - 4

Music appreciation Few basic concepts of Music Learning Patriotic song, Geet, Ghazal, Sargam, Lakshangeet, Chota Khyal

Week - 5

General information about two types of music systems in India Various musical forms included in Carnatic and Hindusthani sangeet One Tillana or Tarana

Week - 6

Bandish, poetry, musical forms and role of language in music Learnin

Information about basic instruments for accompaniment and solo performances Information about Tabla, Tanpura and Harmonium

Information about Basic Ragas and singing one sargam, lakshangeet, Chotakhyal with basic alap taan in each one of them.

Anaya Thatte is Indian Musicologist who has been working in the field of Music research and teaching for more than 20 years. A Law Graduate form Nagpur University acquired her M.A. and PH.D. degrees from SNDT University Mumbai. She also holds Sangeet Alankar Degree in Vocal Music from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal. She has to her credit, more than 55 research papers presented and published at National and International Level conferences and journals. She has successfully guided 5 candidates for Ph.D. and 6 for M.Phil.

She serves as a teaching faculty at University of Mumbai, India and was instrumental in introducing many curricular and co-curricular activities for the holistic development of students
through music during her headship. She is a visiting faculty for Research Methodology at SNDT Women’s University , Mumbai and many more. A recipient of Research Scholarship from Asiatic Society Mumbai, UGC-IUC Associate ship IIAS Shimla, Sahapedia-Unesco Fellowship, Promising Indian Musicologist award from ITC-SRA and University of Amsterdam is also an approved B High Grade artist of All India Radio. Anaya has authored 3 books and edited one volume on the topic Indian fine arts and their knowledge system.
Her areas of specialization are Music History, Research in Interdisciplinary areas, Ragangas, Music teaching and education.
